Location and Directions
Untermyer Gardens is located at 945 North Broadway in Yonkers.
The Walled garden is open Monday through Saturday, 7am - sunset year round. On Sundays from April till October, the walled garden will remain open from noon till dusk. The walled gardens will be closed on the following holidays: New Year's, Martin Luther King, Lincoln & Washington's birthdays, Easter, Columbus, Election, Veteran's, Thanksgiving and Christmas. The remaining open holidays will follow Sunday hours.
The rest of the park is open daily from dawn to dusk.
Dogs are not permitted.
Main Entrance
The main entrance is on North Broadway in Yonkers, just south of St. John’s Hospital. From the Saw Mill Parkway, take Exit 9/Executive Blvd., and go up the hill to North Broadway. Turn left on North Broadway, the garden is about 1/2 mile on the right, the first driveway after the hospital. There is a small Untermyer sign. There is a small parking lot.
Croton Aqueduct
Walking along the Croton Aqueduct Trail between Odell Avenue and Arthur Street you will find four stone columns on the east side of the trail. Proceed through the columns toward the old gate house. On your right is a rustic carriage trail that will lead you up the hill through the woodlands to the formal areas of the gardens.
Public Transportation
Metro North
: Take the Metro North (Hudson Line
)
to the Greystone Station. Walk out of the station to the south/right and use the stairs to Warburton Avenue. Proceed across Warburton Avenue to Odell Avenue where you will head east and begin walking up the hill. C
ontinue walking up Odell to N Broadway. Turn south/right on North Broadway and walk past the hospital, to the main entrance on your right. This is the most direct walk to the walled garden and covers about .75 miles.
An alternate, more interesting approach to the garden is as you walk up Odell, just beyond Hawley Terrace you will find the Croton Aqueduct Trail, head south/right on the trail and follow the "Croton Aqueduct" directions from above. This approach to the garden is under one mile.
It is also possible to use the Metro North/Yonkers station. From there you may find a taxi (appx. $7) or take the 6 bus (below) from the Yonkers Station.
Bus/Subway
: Using Westchester County's
Liberty Lines
(Bee-Line) buses, you can get to the gardens using the 2 or 6 lines. The 6 line also stops at the Metro North Yonkers station. The 2 line starts at the final, 242nd Street, stop for the NYC #1 subway in Riverdale and ends at the DeHaven Drive/Tudor Woods stop, one block directly east of the garden entrance.
